Possibly an alpha particle detector because of the large catchment surface area. Has a rotary switch & analog meter. Quite heavy. Your wrist would quickly tire if you were swinging this around every day. Please note that the aluminium foil at the front is thin & still intact after surviving maybe 60 years. This must be handled & particularly packed very carefully to keep it that way.
