Non-practical 1980s IBM Computer, monitor and keyboard

This was the computer design that first caught on to become an industry standard leading to the PCs that we still use to this day. Until IBM designed this machine, there were dozens of different designs of personal computer all incompatible with each other. Programmers were therefore spending vast amounts of their valuable time adapting software to run on all these different platforms. A huge waste of effort.
