Before transistors miniaturised & revolutionised radios & electronics, power hungry, heat producing glass vacuum valves were used in all electronics. The batteries used to energise battery powered valve radios had to be like this - the size of a child's shoe box. Two separate voltages were required from the one battery. 1.5 Volts for the valve filaments - Low Tension & 90 Volts for the High Tension. It would have cost an arm & a leg to replace these batteries. Every Ready was the best known & most instantly recognisable brand name. This is good dressing for a period radio shop or a home where the radio was an important & prominent item. For its age, this battery is in rematrkably good condition. We ask hirers to respect this & not scuff the cardboard case.
