Vintage wooden "cathedral" Marconiphone 283 battery valve radio from 1933

This would have required large, heavy internal batteries to operate. Not all houses were wired for mains electricity back then so this was a necessity rather than a convenience. Someone would have had to take the Low Tension accumulator to the local radio shop to be charged every week or so. The separate High Tension battery was disposable.
