In its former life this was a 10 gigahertz dummy load but you can pretend it's anything you like - for instance a hi-tech aerial. When setting up or testing a microwave transmitter, the transmit output must always be connected to an aerial or something that electrically behaves like an aerial. You squirt the microwaves into the precisely formed rectangular waveguide hole. The microwave energy is absorbed & turned into heat. The copper fins radiate the heat to prevent the whole thing melting.
