This little black box is used for connecting video signals, such as coming from our media players, to TVs that lack a direct video input connection such as SCART connectors. It works by converting the incoming signal into the correct modulated Radio Frequency for the TV's Ultra High Frequency aerial socket. There is a slight quality loss by adopting this route but it's often the only way of displaying your own content on an older TV. We supply this box free of charge with any of our practical TVs that require it or it can be hired separately for use with your own TV. To use, connect your composite PAL video signal to the yellow phono socket on its rear. Optionally, one channel of sound can be connected to the red socket. A supplied male to female TV aerial fly lead then connects the "to TV" plug on the back to the aerial socket on the TV set. The channel number displayed on the front of the modulator should be showing 36 as this is the convention for TV aerial connected accessories. If not, there are up/down tuning buttons underneath the box. You will then need to tune the TV to the same channel by accessing its tuner control. On older TVs without push button channel selection, this will be a large tuning knob that requires many turns to tune through the complete range. On TVs with push button channel select, typically you will need to access a row of small tuning knobs that are usually hidden behind a pull open flap. Turn the knob corresponding to whichever channel button is pressed until the TV displays a clear stable picture.
