An electronic Prop House

Sinclair ZX Spectrum 1980s home computer

Sinclair ZX Spectrum 1980s home computer

Extremely popular home computer from the mid 1980s. Sir Clive Sinclair had a knack for designing consumer electronics from the 1960s to the 1990s for sale at prices far below the competition - usually achieved by dramatically cutting corners in the design. This was the cheapest colour computer on the market by quite a margin. It was the first sub £100 computer in the UK. It needed to be connected to a TV as a screen & a cassette recorder from which to load or save programs. Disk drives of any kind were still painfully expensive back then. The wish was that home computers were an educational item, which was true, but it was generally a minority who got into creating their own programs. The majority of kids just played pre-written games obsessively on them.
