Period vintage Columbia record player/gramophone

Period vintage Columbia record player/gramophone

This turntable, as it would be called only in this day & age, was capable of playing the old 78 RPM shellac records. The weight of the tone arm is phenomenal by today's standards & would have worn the records out quite quickly. Vinyl records of 45 & 33 RPM wouldn't have been invented when this was made. It has an electrically powered platter mechanism but you should be aware that it produces no sound output itself unlike the earlier wind-up gramophones with their increasingly gigantic horns. It would require the connection of an external amplifier & loud speaker to look realistic. Not presently practical. Sadly the motor is shattered.
